About Ryan Johnson

Ryan Johnson is a photographer and full-stack developer based in Memphis, TN. His journey into the visual arts began in high school, where he developed a dual fascination with the physics of optics and the computational logic of image compression.

The Technical Vision

Started with nature and still-life using a Nikon D3000, Ryan's technical foundation in Computer Science (Graduated 2020) informs his "minimal-tech" aesthetic. He views the camera not just as a tool for capturing light, but as a medium for data-driven storytelling.

Professional Evolution

Ryan transitioned to fast-paced event photography with a Nikon D7000, shooting for the Asian American Association at the University of Memphis. He gained high-volume studio experience at Jimmy Alford Studios, Inc., where he specialized in high school senior portraits.

Recent Projects

In 2022, Ryan notably developed the visual menu and website photography for IBIS Restaurant in downtown Memphis. He currently balances his creative work with a career in IT at ALSAC/St. Jude.
